United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reports that they are running out of new H-1B visas and they may soon be unavailable until October 2012, the start of the next fiscal year.
As of November 2, 2011, USCIS has received 50,800 out of 65,000 under the regular cap. The 20,000 master cap has already been reached. So if you have an employer willing to sponsor you and you plan to start work under an H-1B visa before June, 2012, you should apply soon.
The H-1B visas may run out in December 2011 or January 2012.
