Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Processing Recent Statistics

On June 15, 2012, President Obama signed a memo calling for deferred action for certain undocumented young people who came to the U.S. as children and have pursued education or military service here.  Applications under the program which is called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (“DACA”) begin on August 15, 2012.

When DACA went into effect last August it offered them a temporary reprieve from deportation, authorization to work and the ability to get a temporary social security card and drivers license.

A year after Deferred Action for Child Arrivals was launched, young people are having very different experiences with the program.

The following show total receipts and approvals as of 08/31/2013. This update also shows the applicants by country.

Top 10 Countries of Origin: Asian countries include India, Pakistan, Philippines and South Korea. Around 76% of total accepted are from Mexico.

Total Received: 588,725 (July 31: 573,404, June 30: 557,412 May 30: 539,128; April 30: 515,922)
Total Accepted: 567,563 (July 31: 552,918, June 30: 537,662, May 30: 520,157; April 30: 497,960)

Approvals: 455,455 (July 30: 430,236, June 30: 400,562, May 30: 365, 237; April 30: 291,859)
Denied: 9,578 (July 30: 7,450, June 30: 5383, May 30: 3816; April 30: 2352) 

The following is the trend: Total applications received continuous to show a slow-down. Total number of applications denied continue to increase; number of applications approved continue to decrease.
